Periodontal disease is caused by gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) that is not treated in time

Factors that cause periodontitis:

  • Poor oral hygiene. This is the most important and crucial factor. Plaque that is consistently poorly cleaned causes long-term inflammation of the gums, which passes under the gums into the bone.
  • Hormonal changes during pregnancy and menopause. As many as 30% of pregnant women develop parathyroid disease, which increases the chances of having a premature baby or even a miscarriage.
  • Smoking. Numerous scientific studies have shown that smokers have a higher incidence of periodontal disease, a more severe course and a more difficult treatment. Eliminating this harmful habit significantly improves the treatment prognosis and the condition of the gums.
  • Diabetes (diabetes mellitus). Poorly controlled diabetes and inadequate oral care inevitably lead to gum and bone changes. Good oral care is therefore essential in diabetes.
  • If detected in time, periodontal disease can be cured or at least prevented, but it requires proper treatment and appropriate oral care.

Symptoms of periodontitis

  • Bad breath that doesn’t go away
  • Red or swollen gums
  • Bleeding gums
  • Occurring pain when chewing
  • Retraction of the gingival margin, “loose”, loose teeth
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Noticeable “elongation” of teeth due to receding gums

How do we treat periodontitis?

In our clinic, you will receive professional deep periodontal treatment by hygienist Jolanta Ruzgienė, who will:

  • will explain all the causes of this disease;
  • teach you how to take good care of your teeth and gums;
  • assess the severity of your situation by taking a panoramic picture;
  • develop an individual treatment plan’
  • conservative non-surgical deep cleaning of the periodontal pockets – treatment: ultrasonic scaler and special hand instruments to clean the supragingival and, most importantly, the subgingival calculus, which is usually left behind in most medical institutions;
  • performing a gingival curettage – removing the inner wall of the gingival pocket damaged by persistent inflammation.

Mechanical instruments and an ultrasonic device are used to remove hard and soft root plaque in periodontal pockets.

The root plaque cleaning procedure is designed to remove toxins, micro-organisms, soft and hard plaque from all surfaces of the roots of the teeth, including the dental pocket. Benefits of this procedure:

  • The ultrasonic machine and mechanical treatment with hand instruments clean and treat the gums at the same time.
  • It stops the growth of dangerous bacteria, changing the bacteria in your mouth from aggressive to low-danger species.
  • Helps the gums or the wall of the gum pocket to firmly reattach to the smooth surface of the root and prevent tooth loss.
  • Stops further bleeding from the gums.
  • Reduces swelling of the gums.
  • Reduces discomfort.
  • Stops gum recession and thus tooth root sensitivity.
  • Stops bone melting.
  • Helps prevent tooth loss due to gum disease.

Interdental brushes

Special interdental brushes are more suitable for cleaning wide gums.

Parodontosis is one of the most difficult gum diseases to treat. The best and most effective way to prevent this unpleasant disease is through careful and regular oral hygiene. Take care of your oral cavity and take care of your oral health!

In cases where conservative treatment of periodontal disease is delayed and inappropriate due to doubtful success, dental implants are an alternative. When the periodontal disease is already advanced, often with a lot of bone left and conventional implant placement methods are not feasible, the best choice is the ALL ON 4 technique, which removes all the hopeless teeth in one jaw in a single visit, and a new, aesthetic, temporary denture is fabricated and fitted within 24 hours.
