Dental prosthetics
Fixed dentures
Fixed dentures come in several types: implant-supported crowns, dental bridges, crowns placed on a partially damaged tooth, and micro-prostheses (inlays, overlays, dental veneers).
Wreaths
Wreaths
Individual dental crowns are made of plastic, metal or zirconia ceramic. They can cover a partially damaged tooth when part of the tooth is knocked off or lost through trauma. If a tooth is lost, an implant replaces the root.
Full ceramic crowns
Crowns are used when a tooth is partially erupted, to restore it after trauma, and for endodontic treatment. They are durable, show little wear and protect the tooth from damage.
Dental crowns are made in the laboratory according to the colour, shape and size of adjacent teeth.

Bridges
Bridges
Bridges. As technology advances, bridges are rarely fixed on teeth, as it is nowadays unpopular and incorrect to grind nearby healthy teeth to place a bridge. However, if it is a reworking of bridges that have been done in the past, then prosthetics can be carried out using bridges. The materials used to make dental bridges are the same as those used to make crowns. The difference is that a dental bridge helps to restore areas where one or more teeth are no longer present in a row. This type of prosthetic restoration not only restores the aesthetic appearance, but also the former number of teeth and restores their functionality.

Microprostheses
Microprostheses
Ceramic blankets or pads
These micro-prostheses are simply cemented into the tooth, an alternative to fillings. They do not change shape or colour, wear much less, and avoid micro-cracks. This protects the tooth from decay and secondary caries.
Full ceramic crowns
Crowns are used when a tooth is partially erupted, to restore it after trauma, and for endodontic treatment. They are durable, show little wear and protect the tooth from damage.
Porcelain laminates
0.5-0.7 mm plates, which cover only the front surface of the tooth. They are light-transmitting, multi-layered and look like your natural teeth. If you want to correct the colour, size or shape of a tooth, restore worn or chipped teeth, correct slightly misaligned teeth or close gaps between teeth, dental veneers will improve the aesthetic appearance of the tooth and give you more confidence.
FIND OUT MOREMaterials used for fixed dentures
Permanent dentures are made of materials that are durable, strong and ensure normal chewing function, and look aesthetic and natural. Patients can choose the materials that best suit them with the help of their dentist.
Plastic is used for temporary crowns or bridges and wears out quickly, so it is recommended to replace it after 4-6 months. Composite materials are used for inlays, veneers and overlays. Metallic and metal-free ceramics are the materials of choice for dental restorations. It is therefore worth comparing the properties of metallic and non-metallic ceramic products.

Similarities and differences between metal and zirconia ceramics
Metal ceramic dental crowns and bridges:
- They are exceptionally strong and durable;
- Costs less than metal-free ceramic dentures;
- It often looks unnatural and gives a dark shade because the metal does not let in light;
- It leaves an undisguised dark line at the gum line that is visible to others;
- Patients may experience discomfort, swelling and taste changes due to the interaction of the metal with oral tissues and salivary enzymes;
- Over time, they can become particularly visible due to displacement of the gums.
The properties of this metal ceramic often do not meet the aesthetic requirements, which is why dentists suggest that this type of prosthesis should only be used for invisible teeth, such as molars. But for patients who want to avoid any possibility of discomfort, zirconia ceramic crowns and bridges are recommended as a superior and more innovative option.
Zirconia ceramic dental crowns and bridges:
- Does not cause infections or allergies;
- It has no negative effect on the gums: they remain beautiful, intact and healthily pink;
- Ideally matches the colour of real teeth;
- Light-permeable, allowing you to enjoy natural-looking teeth;
- Suitable for both molars and critical anterior teeth.
By choosing zirconia ceramics, you will avoid any discomfort that comes with metal dentures. In addition, you will enjoy perfect aesthetic function, which is very important for communicating with others and for developing self-confidence. The result of zirconia ceramics is the feeling of having your own teeth in your mouth again, but much more beautiful and stronger.
Similarities:
- Metal and zirconium are cast in ceramics and have a shiny, aesthetic and beautiful surface.
- The constructions are sturdy, durable and come with a 2-year clinic warranty and an additional 1-year extension through the Oral Hygiene Programme;
- Zirconium and metal can withstand high chewing loads and are strong and durable.
Differences:
- Metal ceramics are not light-permeable and are better suited for the molar area, while zirconia ceramics can be used for both molars and anterior teeth. This material is non-allergenic and is therefore also suitable for prostheses placed very close to the gums.
- With metal ceramics, a grey band is visible near the gum. In addition, metal ceramics sometimes cause allergies and a metallic taste in the mouth can be felt.
- Zirconia ceramics are accepted as a natural material, so there is no discomfort and no specific taste in the mouth. Compared to metal ceramics, zirconia crowns are more expensive, but this disadvantage is outweighed by other advantages.

Have you lost all or most of your teeth? Then choose removable dentures:
These are removable or semi-fixed structures that can be attached to crowns or to the remaining natural teeth, if possible. Removable dentures are fabricated when it is no longer possible to prosthesise with non-removable dentures, either on the patient’s own teeth or with implants.
Arch-supported dentures – also removable dentures that have a metal base. They are mounted by attaching the structure to the teeth in the mouth with metal clips. The brackets have the disadvantage that they can be visible when you smile and can loosen over time. This latter problem is solved by the use of metal clasps that hold the teeth much more firmly.
To meet your individual needs, our dentists can also offer you another option to restore your smile and dental function – dental plates. Dental plates can be partial, where only the missing teeth are formed, or full, where none of your own teeth remain.

There are a few things you need to know before choosing a plate:
- Each plate is constructed with a base and false teeth;
- The base of the plate takes up a lot of space in the mouth, so the cavity feels smaller (otherwise the plate would break);
- A partial plate is more stable because it is attached to healthy or prosthetic teeth;
- The full plate is suctioned to the mucosa, but this method of fixation does not guarantee a perfect fixation, which often causes discomfort when speaking or eating.
